Today I bring you another creative artist by the name of Ben Matthews, who is actually a dentist by day. However, let’s see what happens when he skates at night with some lights.
I’m a dentist with a seemingly abundant amount of time to dedicate to photography. I hope you like them. I’ve been taking photos for about 9 years, and been taking them more seriously for about 5 years. I go through phases in my photography, depending on what i’m inspired by, and toys I particular need/want. Right now I think i’m at the end of a light painting phase, but we’ll see…
The technique Ben Matthews uses is called light painting, light drawing or light graffiti depending on who you speak to. It is created by setting a camera up on a tripod and leaving the shutter open for an extended period of time. During this period you move (or skate) around with a light source and the camera will ‘record’ the lines in a single image.
In general, you can see how long the shutter has been open below by the length of the lines created by the stars! I.e. The longer the star trails, the longer the shutter speed.

Photography and skating, I think I’ve found my favourite article so far haha.
Always wanted to try this type of photography.
